Live Happy, Be Free. That's Something Beautiful.

Hello there! I'm glad you've found me here. I'm excited to announce that we're going to be doing a little something on this blog from today moving forward. Every Thursday, I'm going to send out a blog to help you understand what caring for your mental health, or soul, looks like.

A lot of times, people call me feeling like they have hit rock bottom, like going to a psychologist is 'last resort', or that they have in some way failed to 'do life on their own.'

Are you kidding me? In 2016, we still treat mental health, clinical psychology, and taking care of your emotional self like it's second best to physical health. It is easy for someone to march into a gym or personal trainer's office and begin. You begin caring for your body, making behavioral changes in exercise and eating well, and you start seeing results.

Well guess what? That's exactly what we do in private practice. My patients march in, hunker down, and start getting to the bottom of what they've got going on in life. Life is so messy. We try to control it and sometimes it controls us. The point of life is to go through the journey, with the good and the bad, and feel the joy.

So much pain happens from loss, deceit, grief, death, lies, disappointment, and messiness. If you don't pay attention, stop in your tracks, and face life in the mirror on the days that are the hard ones, you walk around with this pain holding you down. It robs you from joy, and it takes you hostage.

My goal for you is to live free, find happiness, and just be. Let's walk together towards making mental health just as important as everything else in our lives together.

I tell my patients I'm not really a traditional psychologist and they're not in psychotherapy. I tell them we are working on their self-care to walk into a positive self-image. Let me know when you're ready for this in your life too.

Shine On,

Dr. Kate
